After completing his education, James answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco, he was selected to join a newly formed elite U.S. Army basketball team, reflecting his talent and team spirit. James was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He proudly supported the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers, but his greatest loyalty belonged to the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. Year after year, he cheered for them with passion and pride.
